Agent types and templates
Every agent in Scout has one type, and the type sets what the agent is for and which tools it may use on a call. You pick it when you create the agent and it can’t be changed later, so an agent always does one job. Templates are ready-made agents of a type, written for a particular kind of role, that you can clone and adjust.
The four types#
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phone Screening | Calls an applicant and screens them against the job: experience, notice period, pay expectations and the questions you set. Each call gets a fit score unless you turn Score this call off. |
| Interview Scheduling | Calls a candidate to find and book an interview slot on the job’s interviewers’ calendars. See Schedule interviews. |
| Video Interview | Not a phone call: the candidate takes a video interview in the browser from an emailed link. The agent explores topics from the job, can look at their shared screen, and records camera and screen. See Send an AI video interview. |
| Reference Check | Calls the references a candidate gave: how they worked together, strengths, growth areas and whether they would hire them again. |
Only Phone Screening calls are scored. The other types capture what was said, and you read it on the call, but they don’t produce a fit score. Scores are guidance for your team: a person always makes the decision.
Browse the template gallery#
The Agents page shows a row of templates under Start from a template. To see all of them, use Browse all templates, or the Browse templates button at the top of the page.
Open Agent in the sidebar.
Click Browse all templates.
ResultThe Agent templates page opens, with filters on the left and the templates on the right.
Narrow the list.
- Type in the search box to search templates by role, region or tone.
- Tick options under Purpose (what the call is for), Region and Style. Each option shows how many templates it matches. Reset clears them.
- Use the quick filters: Most cloned, New, Ready to clone and Scheduling.
To hear a template’s voice, hover over its card and press play on the record.
Turn a template into your agent#
A template is a starting point, not a shared agent: cloning it gives you your own copy to change however you like. Nothing you do affects the template or anyone else’s agents.
On the template’s card, click Clone.
ResultThe New agent dialog opens at Name and identity, with the template’s name, agent name and voice filled in.
Check the names and voice, then follow Create an agent from that step.
Don’t see a template that fits? Start from the type’s own script, start blank, or describe the agent to Agent Studio.
