Create an agent
The New agent dialog creates an agent in three steps: Choose a type, Name and identity and Review. Scout starts it from a working script for that type, which you then shape in the editor. If you’d rather describe the agent in your own words, use Agent Studio instead.
Before you start
- You are a workspace admin.
Step 1: choose a type#
Open Agent in the sidebar and click New agent.
ResultThe New agent dialog opens at What should this agent do?.
To begin with an empty script and no questions, switch on Start blank — leave the script and questions empty. Leave it off to start from the type’s working script.
Click the type you want. See Agent types and templates for what each one does.
ResultThe card says Start from its script, or Start blank with the switch on. The dialog moves to Name and identity.
Step 2: name and identity#
Fill in the agent’s details.
- Agent name (required): how you find it in your list. It must be unique in your workspace.
- What the agent calls itself (required): the name it gives candidates on the call, for example “Priya”.
- Company it calls on behalf of: starts as your workspace name. Change it if the agent should mention a different company.
- Language: Detect automatically, or a fixed language. A Video Interview agent needs a fixed language.
- Voice: voices that can’t speak the chosen language are greyed out.
- Also speaks (only with a fixed language): add other languages with + Add a language. The agent switches when the candidate does.
Click Continue.
Step 3: review and create#
Ready to create sums up the agent: its name, type, how many questions it starts with, its tools, the maximum call length and the voice. You can change all of it in the editor afterwards.
Choose how to create it.
- Create as draft: saves the agent so you can edit and test it. A draft can’t be dialled.
- Create and publish: also publishes it as version 1, ready for calls.
ResultThe agent’s editor opens.
Other ways to start#
- From a template: on a template card, click Clone. The dialog opens at step 2 with the template’s details filled in. See Agent types and templates.
- Blank, from the Agents page: on the New agent card, click Start blank.
- In your own words: on the same card, type into Describe the agent you need… and press Enter, or click Agent Studio. See Build an agent with Agent Studio.
If something goes wrong#
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “An agent with this name already exists.” under Agent name | Agent names are unique per workspace. Pick another name. |
| That template didn't load | Close the dialog and try again. |
| You don’t see New agent | Only admins can create agents. Ask an admin in your workspace. |
Next steps#
- Shape the script, questions and voice: Edit an agent.
- Hear it and put it live: Test and publish an agent.
- Make it call candidates: Create and activate a workflow.
